I’ve been an intern at National Public Radio for a few months now. My internship ends next Friday. Some interns left last Friday. Others split this week.

We’re all a mess. I understand (now?) that this state is symptomatic of being 20-something, but that doesn’t change what a stomach-dropping experience it is to actually live through it.

Because we’re all storytelling types, my fellow quesy interns and I have attempted to address, play with, and document this time on our (aforementioned) blog: http://www.npr.org/internedition/fall09/blog Here (<) we write about/take pictures of/doodle/dream/think about other things, too.

During my time at NPR, producing (i.e.)* has been a source of direction, consternation, and study. But enough about that. Go read my essay about Greco-growing pains.

Norman Rockwell

During the holiday season, Books gain a kind of relevance at NPR that they seldom have elsewise…And by ‘Books’ I mean the ‘Books’ section of the NPR.org/Digital Arts & Entertainment division, not, like, all books ever in life.

One book in particular that has attracted some attention is Norman Rockwell: Behind The Camera. The concept is a pretty self-explanatory deal offering incredible peeks into Rockwell’s life, courtesy of photographer Clemens Kalischer.

Follow the link to see some NPR coverage and (more importantly) a stunning batch of photos from the book. (This (^) is one I just can’t seem to get out of my mind.)

(Young) Adults

‘Conversation.’

This sketch is one version of a comic panel I’m ‘working on.’  The inspiration came while watching a friend wield his BlackBerry at a family dinner table. He looked like a little kid with a Gameboy: hunched forward, smartphone in lap and stored just out of his mother’s line of sight.

Far be it from me to judge: I may not own a BlackBerry, but I have owned (several) GameBoys that made their way to the family table. Discreetly ducking my head down to consult with Mario on his latest efforts to save the princess may not be as enlightening as checking in with Dow Jones, but the need to escape and participate in a digital World is the same.

I started to write an entry (^) about it for the (i.e.) blog, but somehow never finished. Come to think of it, I’m not sure I even resolved what the final panel would look like. Perhaps a more technical rant on that later….or even better: a comic strip!

But for now, no answers. (And oh, yeah: hi!)
